How to Sleep Better

Sleep is essential to life. Good sleep can make you happier, healthier and more energetic. Sleeping badly makes it harder to concentrate and relax, and not sleeping can even lead to illness. There are many easy ways to get better sleep.

SET A ROUTINE

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. The faster you can fall asleep, the better. A routine will make it easier to fall asleep and you will feel less tired when you wake up.

CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Try not to look at screens for an hour before you go to bed. Looking at a phone before bed makes it harder to sleep. Instead, you could read a book or talk to your friends and family. Lights and sounds interrupt sleep. Try to limit light and noise where you are sleeping.

CHANGE YOUR DIET

By eating regularly and healthily you will sleep better. Try to eat at set times and not late at night. Avoiding caffeine makes sleeping easier, especially at night. Caffeine is a stimulant, and will make it harder to sleep! Remember: coffee, tea and fizzy drinks like coca-cola contain caffeine.

WIND DOWN

Stress might be making it harder for you to sleep. To reduce stress you could make a list of things to do for the next day. You could also try breathing slowly and deeply to make you feel calmer.
