Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory (affecting the lungs and airways) diseases. Coronaviruses come from animals.
A new type of coronavirus, called novel coronavirus, was reported in Wuhan City, China, at the end of 2019. It has been spreading quickly in China and has been reported in 56 different countries across the world since. Recovery from the virus depends on the strength of the person’s immune system.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS?
Because this is a new type of coronavirus, the symptoms are still being researched. However, here is a list of the symptoms which have been linked to the coronavirus:
- Fever
- a cough that gets worse over time
- feeling short of breath and difficulty breathing
If you become infected, you may carry the virus for 2 days or up to 2 weeks before you start to notice any symptoms.
WHAT COMPLICATIONS CAN CORONAVIRUS LEAD TO?
Sometimes, the virus can become more serious, and a number of deaths have been reported as a result of the virus.
The virus can cause pneumonia, which is an infection causing the air sacs in the lungs to fill with fluid. It has also been linked to bronchitis, which is an inflammation of the airways in the lungs.
Elderly people or people who already have a medical condition, such as heart-disease or diabetes, are the most at risk of suffering from complications. People with weakened immune systems are also at a higher risk. This includes people with HIV, cancer and people who do not get enough nutrition.
CONCLUSION
The novel coronavirus is spreading quickly in China and across the globe. The symptoms of the virus include a cough, feeling short of breath, having difficulty breathing and a fever.
The virus is more dangerous to people who have a weak immune system, such as those with existing health conditions or older people. The virus is easily spread from person to person, so it is important to call a doctor if you notice any of these symptoms and isolate yourself from others.
