Do We Still Have a Valid Excuse Not to Educate Ourselves?

Introduction

One of the most remarkable effects of the development of communication technologies, especially the internet, is that learning skills has become more accessible, regardless of location, as long as one has an internet connection, a device (computer, tablet, or smartphone), and most importantly, the will to learn. Where previously one had to travel to acquire knowledge, today, a few clicks can give access to far more subjects than one could study in a lifetime. The internet is a true treasure trove of resources for anyone wishing to train or enhance their skills in a specific area.

YouTube: A Real Goldmine if Properly Used

YouTube is not just a platform to watch music videos from favourite artists; it is also a genuine classroom offering short or long courses on various subjects. Numerous professionals share their experiences and knowledge through their channels, providing multiple perspectives on the same topic. Moreover, videos can be watched as many times as needed to fully understand the subject—what teacher would offer such personalized service?

Platforms Offering University-Level Courses

Many platforms provide MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which are online university-level courses open to an unlimited number of participants worldwide. By registering for a course, one can access multimedia content and interactive activities. Prestigious universities offer courses that would otherwise be inaccessible for many people, especially those lacking the financial means to attend in person.

The Opportunity to Earn International Certifications

One significant advantage of MOOCs is the possibility of obtaining international certificates that validate online courses. These certifications can boost a career, though they are generally not free; the course may be free, but the certificate is usually paid. This is an excellent alternative to increase one’s market value while saving on travel and living expenses abroad.

Conclusion

The growth of the internet is an incredible opportunity to access a wealth of knowledge that we must seize. Its use should not be limited to entertainment, information, or socialization. We must also focus on creating or developing skills that lead to greater achievements. Knowledge is an essential competitive tool for reaching ever higher goals.
