Dead Dignity: Shattering the Silence of Oppression, Reclaiming Power

I sing a lonely song to the moonlight,
The only closest company I may have tonight.
I hum to the echoes of the winds that blow,
Composing a symphony only I will know.
Will anybody else ever hear it?
Give me the chance to obtain my biggest profit
A currency paid through a listening ear,
If only I could renounce this great fear.

I am just a girl,
A girl yearning to be free.
Mine me out from society’s detriments and let me be
The girl I know I want to see,
Will never live until you let me be.

Papa, oh Papa,
If the moon turned to face the day,
How I wish for a map to guide my way
Away from the chains of an undesired eternity,
To please a world that feeds on impunity.
My hands and feet you treat as currency,
You glare at the apples hanging from the tree,
Ripe and sweet for your remedy.
Punishing me to live as a slave,
At the expense of the freedom God gave.

Mama, oh Mama,
You are a woman like me.
Out of his bone and flesh, your unity bore me.
But I wonder, oh Mama, as you sip your tea,
And puff your anger like the raging sea
Would my pain make you shudder or pierce like a blade?
Or would you hide your guilt for a societal upgrade?

I’m not grown, Mama, yet I must be now.
Stripped of my dreams, Papa, I take a senseless vow.

A flower blooms within my soul,
A flame that seeks to light the world whole.
The city never sleeps, neither do I,
My thoughts erupt like fire in the sky
Lest I miss a glimpse of hope that comes my way,
To awaken my dead dignity buried every day.

Free! Free!
Awake, alive, and free
