Dirtiness amongst Parents: The Impacts on Children

Introduction

It is obvious that children are a clear reflection of their parents, and this is evident in their outlook/appearance and attitude towards their environment. To an extent, one may be questioning the essence of this topical issue as most parents are concerned with making money than to take care of their children, but the fact still remains that it will be difficult to achieve a healthy lifestyle if matters of cleanliness are handled with levity as it goes a long way to affecting the overall well-being of a person irrespective of the financial status.

Signs of Dirtiness amongst Parents

Disorganized House

The first impression one gets when he/she steps into your house speaks volumes more than what you project to be. Parents who don’t care about neatness keep their surroundings unkept and this goes beyond the living rooms

Improper Social Etiquettes

Most parents who are used to dirty environments don’t care how others feel. They can litter the environment and will not take note of how they have messed it, and this sends a wrong signal to people out there who are watching. They can go out without cleaning up and this affects their relationship with people.

Unhealthy Eating

Eating healthy isn’t only about the nutrients in the meal, but the preparations too. There have been stories of families wiped out because the mother carelessly prepared a soup without noticing the presence of a wall gecko. Such parents are careless, they cook with unwashed utensils and don’t mind the clean state of the plates or cups they use in the house.

Body Odour and Appearance

Parents who are careless with hygiene, care less about the foul smells from their underarms and other regions of utmost importance. Both spouses become complacent and don’t take cognizance of their body smells. There are children one would see and to carry them becomes an enjoyable thing, and there are ones that the sight of how unkept they are repels others from carrying them (unless otherwise). The appearance of the children both in the environment and school is quite unbearable and one begins to question the kind of homes and most importantly, mothers, these children have.

How are the Children Affected?

Children often learn by what they see, not by what they hear. They watch their parents and replicate what they do. If parents are uncooperative towards cleanliness, the same attitude will be emulated by their children and the above-mentioned signs will follow suit. Children who grow up in unhygienic environments may contract infections or diseases as their immune system is not yet strong enough to combat these infections. In psychological studies, the environment has a huge impact in the lives of children and mature individuals too. When an environment is clean, it keeps children’s minds at peace and helps them think without having to deal with scattered and littered environments. The brain of a child processes things at different points and the nature of the environment goes a long way to determining the kind of thoughts children think. As important as their formative years are, it is vital that children are hygienic, and the environment is well-kept in order to help them process worthwhile knowledge. The appearance of your child also affects his/her relationship with fellow children and teachers. Most children can face stigmatization by friends. Teachers won’t be happy having unkept children and disciplining them might be an issue; but if the parents haven’t changed, how futile has the teacher’s effort become?

Conclusion

Health is said to be wealth, and cleanliness is next to godliness. The world is changing, and individuals are becoming more open to the way they look at things. Prioritizing the neatness or cleanliness of the family will go a long way into helping the family raise healthy and responsible children who will live to make lasting and positive impacts to society. Teach children how to dress their beds and clean up their rooms immediately after they wake up and to take care of their surroundings. It requires intentional efforts by both parents and other related social agents.
