CREATING AN EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN WORK AND FAMILY

Introduction

The balance between one’s personal and professional obligations that enables one to successfully manage both without experiencing excessive stress or conflict is known as work-life balance. It all comes down to having the freedom to fulfil professional obligations and yet find time for leisure activities, family time, hobbies, and personal health and wellbeing. Reaching this equilibrium is essential for general well-being and efficiency. We are living in times where both mothers and fathers work full time resulting in parents not spending enough time with their children.

The negative impacts on children when parents fail to balance work and family life.

Younger children may grow up to form insecure bonds if they experience emotional maltreatment or unmet needs. In the future, this may cause worry, despair, and trouble establishing wholesome connection issues, including acting out, poor academic achievement, and trouble following rules and social standards, can be brought on by a lack of parental supervision and guidance. Academic difficulties may arise for children in the absence of sufficient parental support and motivation. Academic results are frequently correlated with parental participation in school events and assignments. Insufficient engagement between parents and children can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness. They may also lose out on the opportunity to acquire critical social skills, which are often imparted through family interactions. Parents who are too busy to cook nutritious meals or promote physical activity may be contributing to problems like obesity and poor nutrition.

What parents can do to create and maintain an equilibrium between work and family

Parents are encouraged to prioritise tasks by identifying the most crucial things to get done at work and at home. Setting boundaries and defining their professional and personal time clearly refraining from allowing work to interfere with family time and vice versa. Parents are advised to utilise every moment they have with their children by taking part in important discussions and activities that deepen their relationship. During set periods for family time, they should turn off all electronics connected to work and give their whole attention to their family. To keep track of everyone’s schedules, including work obligations, school functions, and extracurricular activities, parents should create a family calendar. If managing work and family demands becomes too much to handle, they should think about getting support from a therapist or counsellor to deal with stress and create coping mechanisms.

Conclusion
Planning and deliberate effort are necessary to achieve work-life balance. Parents can design a balanced and satisfying lifestyle that supports their career goals and the well-being of their family by establishing clear priorities, making use of support networks, and keeping lines of communication open. professional-life balance is essentially about striking a healthy balance between professional obligations and personal pursuits such that neither takes precedence over the other. It takes constant work and modification to accommodate shifting priorities and conditions.
