How Sportswear Became High Fashion

Introduction

In recent years, sportswear has grown in popularity. Sportwear evolved into a fashion staple for everyone and the gym’s standards. And it makes sense, given that a fusion of comfort and functionality powers the modern fashion industry. Therefore, it is all about athletic components that support the creation of fashionable, sporty outfits and clothes that satisfy everyone’s everyday needs.

Athleisure and its Influence on Celebrities

People are aware of how sportswear is so comfortable on the body, so people fall in love with sportswear. Everything is high fashion, from tracksuits, sneakers, and dresses to golf t-shirts, because many people have turned that sportswear into streetwear. As such, the fashion industry has returned to the authenticity of mixing clothes called Athleisure. The term “athleisure” is used to describe a variety of fashion choices that people might make when dressing for both athletic and non-athletic occasions.  We live in a world where creativity can also be expressed through fashion; mixing up clothes and combining clothes is a form of expression. Famous athletes and celebrities also play a massive role in making sportswear high fashion, as they are very influential and fashion brands work directly with them to promote certain products.

The Origins of Sportswear

Yasandisa Siveste, a well-known fashion designer, has said that today, one cannot talk about streets and not mention sportswear. That sportswear started way back, with the likes of the Kings of Rock, such as Jam Master Jay, Run and DMC. Those people are the ones who made sportswear fashionable by rocking sneakers that were made for tennis, like the Adidas Stan Smith’s and made sportswear to be fabulous fashion. Some sportswear designers have succeeded and built a solid international reputation thanks to mixing up clothes. Today, most of them also produce everyday clothing heavily influenced by sportswear. Nike and Adidas are two well-known brand names that we commonly encounter. People have grown to enjoy their sneakers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and other clothes. Nearly everyone globally now accepts wearing sportswear when not participating in sports or fitness activities.

Casual Wear vs. Sportswear

Yasandisa Siveste, a well-known fashion designer, has further said that we, the designers, have witnessed sportswear being introduced or worn as casual wear. This is caused by many factors like the durability and the functionality of sportswear that make the garments more of a ‘go-to’ item when needed. She concludes by saying that the idea of light sweaters and joggers made from breathable and engineered fabrics makes it easier for a person to transition to sportswear. Most sportswear garments are also very reliable and can withstand most weather conditions, which is a step in the right direction for consumers.

The combination of sportswear and casual wear has opened the way to other different types of fashion combinations. The most important thing about mixing up and combining clothes is comfortability; people are trying to be as comfortable as they can be while looking stylish.
