SPACE MANAGEMENT IMPROVES MENTAL HEALTH

INTRODUCTION

The definition of mental health is the condition of one’s mind that allows one to function normally in all aspects of life, including work, learning, and living. It is the state of a person’s behaviour and cognitive and emotional health.

STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH VIA SPACE MANAGEMENT

One of the factors that could affect our mental health is where we live. In this article, we examine improvements one may make to enhance their mental well-being and go over some easy environmental modifications one can make.

  • ADD LIGHT TO YOUR SPACE: Sunlight is a source that helps alleviate depression and anxiety because it increases the brain’s synthesis of the hormone serotonin, which elevates mood. You may bring light into your room by pulling your curtains and opening doors. You may place your desk next to a window. Alternatively, deliberately have your favourite seat in the house where the sun shines the most. This may entail shifting your favourite couch or chair so that you can get as much sun as possible.

KEEP YOUR SPACE CLEAN

Cluttered and filthy environments can harm your mental health since they can make you feel distracted, depressed, and worthless. Anxiety levels may rise due to the brain’s confusion brought on by filth and clutter. Maintaining a clean atmosphere is crucial for your mental health. As often as possible, purge your area of all the extra items you have. Keeping things neat and organised is beneficial since it not only makes it easier to find what you’re looking for but also keeps you physically busy, temporarily forgetting about your worries by concentrating on the task at hand.

INCORPORATE ART IN YOUR DECOR : The spaces we spend most of our time in should be our safe spaces. They should radiate the energy of who we are, calm and peaceful. Decorating your spaces helps to incorporate different items that bring you joy. This could be family frames in your home or workspace, a painting that lights up the room, or art that reminds you of peace and calm.

  • PLANTS AND FLOWERS: Plants and flowers are beautiful and make us happy. Plants produce oxygen while taking in carbon dioxide, providing improved air quality. Together with flowers, they offer home aesthetics and a calming effect as you immerse yourself in taking care of them.  Add some plants and flowers to your house and office space for joy and calmness.

CONCLUSION

Making one’s home and workplace fit their mental health requirements is essential for preserving one’s mental well-being because people spend much time there. As easy and inexpensive as the suggested modifications may be, remember that they can only be beneficial if implemented.
