Do Academic Qualifications Represent Wisdom or Show that you have Learned Enough?

Introduction

In case of obtaining or possessing academic qualifications, does that represent you as a learned person, or does someone without academic qualifications not have enough wisdom? However, does that mean by acquiring academic qualifications, you are educated without humanity (Ubuntu), an African term? The attribute of wisdom is the capacity to make good decisions and choose the most sensible path of action based on information, insight, and experience. Whereas being educated means you have received instruction or training from an institution or organization.

Expectations from Learned individuals

There is a certain Bantu expression that says, “There is nobody,” shortly/loosely translated as “You might be a person” physically because you have a human being appearance, but without the spirit of humanity (ubuntu), as it is called in IsiZulu, which leads you to be called a human being. An example might be of a computer that consists of hardware and software; it might appear with hardware without software, so there will be no computer. A learned person is comprised of hard and soft skills obtained from academic institutions, but without the spirit of ubuntu or sense of humanity, the qualification might end up in vain because both professional and social group ethics are also to be considered. Imagine being a medical doctor. Yes, you might have qualifications, but without passion, it is nothing because you deal with sick people, but you do not like people, so how can you deal with their challenges?

Being educated must not be shown by a paper, which is a degree or diploma, but expressed through behavior or attitude, and social well-being must be considered through the way you interact or a convivial. In most of the cases witnessed, the situation whereby some of the so-called educated individuals want to expose (show off) is a negative attitude because the vulnerable communities or societies are in need of you to change or advocate for their situations through your acquired academic knowledge. Normally, all scientific academic qualifications acquired at school are with the objective of the development and social well-being of our communities, starting from our villages, districts, provinces, national level, regional, continent, and globally. An educated person is someone who can suit or adapt in almost all situations or conditions because it is within the societies or communities where you should implement both hard and soft skills learned at the tertiary education institutions. Researchers contacted people within diverse communities, representing different religions, social backgrounds, economic statuses, sexes, colours, and races.

Social Trust of Learned Society

The foundation of interactions between societies is social trust, and social trust maintains the legitimacy of the learned society; this cannot be accomplished by being proud, impolite, or negligent professionally or in the community. To avoid prejudice, a scholar must be partial, realistic, and honest; propagandists (bootlicking) are untrustworthy, particularly on political problems, such as serving as political commentators on certain media channels.

Conclusion

A knowledgeable person is demonstrated not just by achieving a specific academic level, but also by considering professional and social group ethics and being instilled with a (ubuntu) sense of humor. To supplement your academic credentials, you must be a person to the people or inside the community.
