Introduction
Considered the illness of the century, back pain is undoubtedly a real scourge in our modern societies. Indeed, our current lifestyles create more back issues than ever before. Although seemingly harmless, our everyday habits can be the source of great pain. Let’s discover two simple ways to effectively fight back problems and regain daily comfort.
Correcting your Posture!
Even if Dorothée Letessier says: “Back pain expresses all the bitterness we’ve accumulated”, the main cause of back pain remains our tendency to adopt poor posture in our daily lives. In other words, we no longer know how to hold ourselves properly. Sitting all day at a desk especially in front of a computer can easily build up tension in the back and neck. Since we can’t just quit our jobs, here’s a simple and free thing to implement: sit up straight. As much as possible, try to maintain a straight posture, avoid slouching, keep your body upright with your head aligned to your spine, and both feet flat on the ground. A small effort that can make a huge difference over time.
Exercise Regularly
Many jobs today require little or no physical effort. Over time, when our deep muscles (responsible for posture) aren’t used, they lose their tone. As a result, the body becomes stiff because these muscles no longer support the body properly or protect the spine effectively. That’s why regular physical activity is essential. At first glance, moving might seem counterproductive when experiencing back pain. However, when you’re in pain, moving is actually vital. Starting a physical activity may feel like it worsens the pain at first but don’t give up. In the long run, it helps relieve and reduce pain. Doctors agree: to relieve back pain, you absolutely need to keep moving as much as possible. When it comes to physical activities, swimming is highly recommended by professionals. This sport strengthens the back muscles gently. But if swimming isn’t an option, you still need to move. The most important thing is to avoid staying still for too long.
Conclusion
When it comes to health, small actions can have disproportionately big consequences. Since the spine supports the whole body, we must give our back the attention it deserves. Let’s adopt a few simple daily habits, and our back will surely thank us for it.
