Introduction
The birth and popularity of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in STEM, an abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, was conducted in the early to mid-50s. In addition, it wasn’t only until around the mid-50s that it reached its golden years. Three decades later, amidst the 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) era, we are currently witnessing the Impact of AI in our everyday lives, for the most part of creatives, particularly those in writing.
Modern Creative Writing
Writing has never been more interesting than now. A major variety of writing tools are placed out there to assist writers for any given writing task; be it a school assignment, theatrical work or for educational purposes such as essays and school projects. Modern creative writer Stephen King once said: “Writing is refined thinking”. In order for writers to carry out an eloquent story, profound and adequate content should be considered, and for the most part, credibility must be the main concern. Writers spend extensive time conducting research and it gets tricky sometimes especially with esoteric or folklore, however, more recent apps unleashed a new convenience for creative writers.
Impact of AI on Creative Writing Jobs
Creative writing jobs are quite demanding as writers have to engage the right side of the brain frequently. Equally, being innovative can be a challenging part for others. With AI apps like AI meta, Chat GPT, etc. used globally for various reasons, there are some positive and negative impacts AI can impose on your job as a creative writer. AI’s positives include assisting with research, generating ideas or concepts when experiencing a brain freeze, helping with time optimisation, and assisting with editing. The negatives of AI include limiting creativity, making room for ingenuity and that will lead to plagiarism and impaired authorship.
The Way Forward with AI
As Alan Turing, who is considered the father of theoretical computer science and AI once said: “A computer would deserve to be called intelligent if it could deceive a human into believing that it was human”. For the current technological industry we are in, particularly creative writing, this begs the question of whether or not AI’s impact is indeed as intelligently designed for creative writers to harness its services for a genuine production as humanly as possible with the perks and flaws of humanity contained within the creative process.
Conclusion
With humanity transcending the tech space, we bear witness to the impact of AI in creative writing jobs. Although its maturity is young, especially in marginalized countries, it is quite arduous to make a complete judgment regarding its impact. Only by allowing time will we eventually get a gist of this intelligence.
