THE MOBILE DREAMS OF THE AMBITIOUS GHANAIAN YOUTH

INTRODUCTION

The pursuit of success within Ghana itself is the focal point of this discussion, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment conducive to nurturing the aspirations of its youth. In examining the potential for Ghanaian youth to flourish within their homeland, it becomes evident that fostering an enabling environment is pivotal, and that the focus should be on harnessing and developing local talents and aspirations.

THE UNRELENTING SPIRIT OF GHANAIANS

Ghanaians exhibit a resilient entrepreneurial spirit, as highly evidenced by the innumerable shops you find in almost every free space in the country. The youth also show a strong commitment to education, despite facing various challenges, by striving to fund themselves through school. Some of these young dreamers sell many odd things to generate an income enough to feed and be educated.

For those who cannot get a formal education, their grit is displayed in their artisanal trades. This determination underscores their contributions to both society and the nation.

SEEKING GREENER PASTURES DUE TO INHIBITING ENVIRONMENT

A significant number of Ghanaian youth are compelled to seek opportunities abroad due to perceived limitations within their homeland. If you interact with at least 10 young Ghanaians about their dreams, you will certainly hear a variant of the statement “I want to go outside the country for better opportunities”.  You may also hear a variant of the statement, “I want to go to a land where the system works”. This diasporic trend reflects the desire for environments perceived as more supportive of personal and professional growth.

YEARNING FOR A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AT HOME

There exists a deep-rooted longing among Ghanaian youth to realize their dreams within their homeland. However, the lack of conducive conditions hampers their ability to thrive locally, prompting a call for tangible actions to address these challenges.

Many Ghanaians would rather stay home, where there is a sense of belonging, safety, and where they can achieve their dreams, or at the very least attempt to see their dreams become a reality if the right environment can be fostered.

Unfortunately, the right to dream and the attempted pursuit of dreams have become a sport for the rich and highly connected in society.

CONCLUSION

Creating an enabling environment within Ghana is essential for nurturing the ambitions of its youth. This requires proactive measures to translate proposed solutions into tangible realities, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment among Ghanaian youth within their own motherland.
