BOBO-DIOULASSO: THE MEMORY CITY!

Introduction:

Bobo-Dioulasso, the cultural gem of Burkina Faso, transforms into a cinematographic hub with the RECIS (Cinematographic Encounters of Sya). This year’s edition takes on a particular significance following the tragedy of the flooding of the Audiovisual Museum in Ouagadougou in September 2009.

Historical Conservation Context:

The RECIS highlights the imperative to conserve and archive cinematographic works as cultural testimonials. Workshops delve into the crucial importance of this conservation in the 21st century. Animated discussions address the digitization, restoration, and preservation of Burkinabe films, proudly representing 65% of the RECIS selection.

Immortally Cinematic Memory:

Mr. Évariste POODA, technical advisor to the Minister of Culture, insists that “memory must traverse time.” He underscores the need to ensure Burkina Faso’s eternity through its cinema. The conservation of cinematographic works thus becomes a crucial means of immortalizing not only the films but also the deeply rooted cultural heritage.

Impact of RECIS on Preservation:

The RECIS is not just a cinematographic gathering but a mission to preserve the very essence of Burkina Faso. They erect a bulwark to safeguard not only the films but also the traditions, stories, and identities that are transmitted through these cinematic creations.

Conclusion:

The RECIS 2023 positions itself as committed guardians of Burkinabe cinematographic memory. By focusing on preservation, they ensure that every film, every image, every narrative remains engraved in the history of Burkina Faso, ready to be shared with future generations.
