Organic Waste

Would organic waste recycling contribute to access to energy and biogas in Senegal?

Introduction

Organic waste is generally constituted of organic substance (animal and/or plant) that is likely to undergo transformations to be reused in a biotope and a biocenosis. They are biodegradable, but they also contribute to atmospheric pollution and worsen microbial dangers in the community.

Recycling waste is a very captivating tip when it is reusable in businesses and households to protect the environment from ecological harm. It then comes down to overlooking the dangers of organic waste in contact with society, its uses, and the reuse of the latter.

Organic waste-related danger

Organic waste, sometimes called hazardous waste, constitutes even more threats to human health; it contains dangerous microbes in varying quantities, capable of killing humans and degrading the environment. This is why they are subject to very strict and frank regulations for their management and development.

The usefulness of organic waste

Organic waste is a very available resource in Senegalese society. They can be reused by humans in households, in fields, etc. Throwing them away only increases pollution. Indeed, composting and methanization make waste of animal and/or plant origin useful.

  •     Composting is an aerobic reaction, a biological process that converts organic matter into compost.
  •     Anaerobic digestion or anaerobic digestion is a biological process of degradation of organic matter.

 Reuse of organic waste

Recycling organic waste is the best solution to save our environment from the dangers that lie behind it.

The waste should be collected and then transported to specialized centers where teams sort it manually into different types, it will be recovered via composting or anaerobic digestion to relieve the need for green energy in households and businesses in the country.

It is entirely necessary to specify that this energy, coming from methanization, is available, non-polluting, and renewable energy on a human scale, and the compost, in turn, does not present any chemical reaction, it is organic fertilizer. For local development, it would be preferable for leaders to increase the recycling of organic waste which would strengthen access to energy and fertile land.

Conclusion

The recovery of organic waste is an asset that should not be neglected if we want to live in a healthy environment. It is a collective struggle that the government, consumers, and many other environmental stakeholders should embrace to limit the increase in waste across the country. Everyone’s contribution will give the environment a perfect, better and increasingly sustainable life.
