You may have read that if you can hold your breath for 30 seconds, you do not have coronavirus. This is not true. Doctors do not recommend this test.
The test will not identify people with the symptoms of the coronavirus. The most common symptoms of coronavirus are a persistent cough and a fever. The breath test does not identify either of these symptoms.
It is true that if you are struggling to breathe you will fail this test. However, not all people with coronavirus develop difficulty in breathing. And other illnesses like asthma can make you short of breath, even if you don’t have coronavirus.
If you think you have coronavirus, you should speak to your doctor and follow the local advice in your area about testing and staying away from other people. If you are finding it difficult to breathe, you should seek urgent medical help.
