Youth Voices: Speaking Up and Taking Action for a Better World

Introduction

Young people from different continents, countries, cities, and neighborhoods step into the wider world in a variety of contexts. This desire to take action is driven by personal, professional, or community-based motivations. The voice is an essential tool for building a better world, advocating for causes, and driving change.

Stepping into the Spotlight

Youth is an important stage of life. Beyond physical and mental changes, psychological transformations also take place. At a certain point, every young person begins to question what they will do with this period of their life and how they want to shape their future. The mind begins to develop values, principles, and convictions that give meaning to this unique stage of life. As members of a community, young people also seek to leave a positive mark on those around them. They therefore share a common goal: to amplify their voices and turn them into action.

Discovering Young Advocates in Madagascar

Madagascar is home to a vibrant and engaged youth population. The country has many Youth Advocates working in different fields but united by a common goal: giving a voice to community issues and contributing to positive change. Some serve as advocates for child vaccination and the fight against polio, while others work to promote inclusion or protect the climate. They are all recognized for their dynamism and dedication, both in the field and on social media. The island also has U-Reporters from different regions, including Analamanga, Haute Matsiatra, and Vakinankaratra. They participate in events and surveys that help make young people’s voices heard on specific issues and strengthen their engagement. Exchanges, interviews, focus groups, consultations, debates, and advocacy activities have therefore become important spaces where young people can support and defend various causes.

Young People at the Heart of Development in Madagascar

Every young person wants to use their skills for the benefit of others and themselves. Community engagement can contribute to solving problems that affect those around them. Volunteering also helps young people expand their networks, develop a sense of responsibility, and become more aware of their rights and duties. In Malagasy society, one expression often comes to mind when speaking about youth: “Ny tanora dia ho avin’ny firenena,” meaning “Young people are the future of the country.” This expression is deeply rooted in the minds of engaged Malagasy youth and serves as a pillar of their vision for prosperity.

Conclusion

Being young means making the most of every moment to create positive change and become the best version of oneself. Commitment, courage, empathy, generosity, and altruism set an example for those who wish to serve their communities, today and in the future. Every voice deserves to be heard, valued, and transformed into concrete action.
