AI IN SCHOOLS: PEDAGOGICAL REVOLUTION OR SILENT SABOTAGE?

Introduction

Many things have changed since artificial intelligence entered classrooms. Today, a student can complete an entire essay in seconds without opening a book or making any real intellectual effort. Yet, artificial intelligence can also become a powerful learning tool. Everything depends on the educational framework that guides its use. Between impressive efficiency, the risk of abandoning critical thinking, and the redefinition of the teacher’s role, one central question arises: is artificial intelligence a pedagogical revolution or a silent sabotage of learning?

 

Learning Short-Circuited by AI

The threat is constantly present: artificial intelligence may become a silent and disguised cheating machine. Without understanding the reasoning behind the answers, many students use it to complete assignments on their behalf, thereby undermining the teacher’s traditional role of transmitting knowledge. Faced with perfectly written assignments, mistakes, which are essential to learning, disappear from the process and make the assessment of students’ actual abilities more difficult. Teachers who are not trained to use these tools often find themselves unprepared. In such cases, AI becomes a hidden instrument that weakens the very foundations of education. This is silent sabotage.

 

AI as an Ally to Teachers

For well-trained educators, AI can also become an extraordinary ally. In just a few minutes, a teacher can generate and personalize exercises adapted to students with different learning levels. AI can summarize lengthy chapters and save valuable preparation time. In this scenario, teachers remain in control of the content and learning process. Artificial intelligence does not replace them; instead, it frees them from repetitive tasks and allows them to focus on more essential aspects of teaching. The teacher becomes an enhanced educator empowered by technology. This is the true pedagogical revolution.

 

Training Teachers and Students Without Delay

A dual training approach is urgently needed in response to the irreversible arrival of AI in classrooms. First, teachers must learn to use these tools critically and effectively through mandatory training modules and practical workshops throughout their careers, enabling them to identify AI-generated work. Second, students must be educated to use AI responsibly. The goal is not only to prevent cheating but also to help them understand the limitations, ethical concerns, and biases of these technologies. Clear rules must therefore be established, discussed, and accepted by everyone. It is equally important to rethink assessment methods by promoting oral presentations, continuous assessment, and classroom-based exercises. Without proper training on both sides, artificial intelligence will remain a threat. 

 

Conclusion

Artificial intelligence will never replace a teacher capable of recognizing fatigue in a student’s eyes. However, without proper training, it may weaken both educators and learners. The real challenge is therefore human and pedagogical. The priorities are clear: train all stakeholders, establish a clear framework, and rethink assessment methods. At this crossroads, it is collective responsibility that will make the difference.
