Life Hacks for a Clean Home

Maintaining a clean and organised home can be time-consuming for some. Between day to day responsibilities, work, school or looking after children, it can be hard to find time to devote to cleaning. However, it isn’t about how often you clean but rather how you do it. This article lists 5 simple and inexpensive hacks to keep your home clean and organised.

REMOVE ODOUR WITH LEMON

When garbage is accumulated for a long time in the bin, it can leave a faint odour that remains even after the waste has been thrown out. To eliminate this odour, cut up a few slices of lemon and rub them along the insides of the garbage bin every time you empty the bin. This is especially helpful just before guests are visiting and leaves the kitchen smelling fresh.

USE VINEGAR TO CLEAN GLASS

Vinegar is a great natural cleanser for glass materials because it can remove grease, fingerprints and any watermarks that are left after rain. It is especially helpful when watermarks and grime buildup after rain on glass windows.

REMOVE STAINS FROM A WOODEN CUTTING BOARD

While vinegar will work great to remove any odours, tackling stubborn stains which are left on your wooden cutting board requires another household item. To remove stains, sprinkle baking soda on the cutting board and dissolve it in by rubbing it with lemon. Once all the baking soda has been dissolved, rinse the board and let it air dry.

REVAMP RUSTY KNIVES

To remove built up rust from knives, create a lemon water mixture and let the knives soak in the mixture for up to 10 minutes.

GET SHINY WOODEN CABINETS WITH COCONUT OIL

Applying coconut oil onto wooden cabinets not only makes them look shiny and glossy, but it also helps remove dirt and impurities that have built up over time.  Coconut oil also contains a substance called lauric acid which helps to kill off any bacteria on surfaces.
