Men play a vital role in the family, and being involved in the family helps men, their relationships and their family. This can also positively impact on a man’s community. Men can use their skills, knowledge and wisdom to do this, as both a husband and a father.
THE ROLE OF THE HUSBAND
A good relationship between husband and wife involves trust, respect and care. For both husband and wife to show these things to each other, means that they recognise each other’s value as different people.

A good relationship between husband and wife involves trust, respect and care. For both husband and wife to show these things to each other, means that they recognise each other’s value as different people.

As a husband, the man has a particular role to support his wife and appreciate her for what she does for the family and the community, and the care she does this with. A woman with a loving husband can better provide for the family, knowing that she has the support of her husband. For a wife to feel appreciated and listened to will also benefit the relationship.

For a husband to care for and support his wife, he may support her to work and provide financially for the family, thank her for caring for the children and other family members, and looking after the house, as well as help her in these duties.

THE ROLE OF FATHER
Children look to both their father and their mother as role models, and they become who they are because of their advice and support. In particular, the father can pass on his knowledge and values to his children, making sure the things he believes are important are carried on to the next generation, for the benefit of the whole community. The father can do this by the positive example he sets and by spending time with his children and giving them advice.
A father can teach his children the knowledge he has gained from his own work, giving them the skills they need be hard-working and successful when the time comes for them to care for themselves and their families. The example a father sets as a husband can also show a young boy how to treat a woman and a young girl to seek a good man.
The support a husband gives his wife in raising children also means that both parents can share the work that needs to be done and make sure they are with their children as much as possible. This reduces the chances of a child turning to crime or living a bad life. Children with a supportive father have been shown to be happier and more successful.
