Sexual relations happen between two people who are attracted to each other, and like each other a lot. It happens both for fun and to procreate, but should only happen when both people consent and say yes. However, sex can pose some dangers if you do not engage responsibly.
WHAT ARE THE DANGERS?
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) happen when a virus affects your penis, vagina or mouth. There are a number of different types, with some examples being:

If untreated, these diseases can cause physical pain, disfiguration (changes to your body), infertility (you can no longer have babies) or even death. So this article is going to let you know the best ways to ensure safe sex stays safe.
HOW CAN I PREVENT STD?
The best way to prevent STDs is to for both you and your sexual partner to use contraceptive protection. Examples of this are condoms and femidoms. Femidoms are used by the female, and are like a condom, but they go inside the vagina. By using these contraceptives, you can prevent harmful diseases from touching your genitals or mouth, and therefore prevent the spread of STDs. You do not need to use both at the same time; you can use one or the other. Whenever you are involved in a sexual act, be it oral (though the mouth) or intercourse (genitals) make sure to use a condom or femidom.
BUT WHY DON’T OTHER CONTRACEPTIVES PREVENT STD?
When you go to a family planning clinic, you are told that the Pill or spermicide will help you practice ‘safe sex’. This is correct if you do not want to become pregnant.
But it is incorrect if you do not want to transmit STDs. Condoms and femidoms are the only way to prevent STDs. This is because they block potentially harmful contact, as they do not allow the infected skin or fluids to touch the other person.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I THINK I HAVE AN STD?
If you are ever in doubt, go to your family planning clinic or doctor. They can correctly diagnose you and say what you have. Often these illnesses DO NOT have any symptoms, it is therefore important to get checked regularly. In most cases there are medicines you can take to get rid of the disease, which can be taken in pill or cream form.
